Dakota Ware
Batting
Dakota Ware was one of our most improved players last year. As the year went on he began to swing the bat very well and his defensive skills were much improved. During the playoffs last year he really started swinging the bat well and was making contact on every at-bat. While he had 3 hits during the regular season all year, he got 6 hits in the playoffs. While we had been rotating him in and out of the fielding line-up, when the quarter finals and finals came and we went to a 9 man batting line-up, we left Dakota in and rotated two other players who were not swinging the bat as well. We continue to evaluate Dakota at second base and all of the Cubs coaches are pulling for Dakota to develop the skills necessary to play this position. Dakota has the best attitude of any Cub. He does everything we ask of him and gives 100% of his effort to team goals. He keeps his mind on the game and is eager to have the ball "in his hands". He is fearless at the plate and always leads the team with batter "hit-by-pitches". He also is a "tough" kid. If he gets hit by an accidental wild pitch, he refuses to let the pitcher know the "bean ball" hurt. He refuses to "rub" the spot and simply runs to first base. He simply refuses to let the opposing pitcher know he can throw the ball hard enough to hurt him. If all of the Cubs were as excited about baseball and worked as hard between practices and games as Dakota, the Cubs would easily be the most dominate 11 year-old team in North Georgia. In fact, we could quite possibly compete with many select travel teams. Kenny and Amanda have worked hard with Dakota after practices and in the off-season. It would not be surprising to drive by Dakota's house on Christmas Day and see him playing baseball in the front yard. He will play ball whenever he can get someone to play catch with him.
