2008 Will be Drew's third year as a Cub.  He was one of our hero's in last year's Championship game against Dug Gap.  He came in to pitch with the bases loaded and one out in the top of the last inning in relief of Jackson.  Drew held Dug Gap to a four-run lead in that inning, which enabled the Cubs the opportunity to score 5 runs in our half of the inning to take the win.  Drew was credited with the win and was the Championship pitcher of record when the Cubs went ahead to win. Drew also scored the winning run on Henson's single to the right side of the infield.

Drew is not a 100 M.p.h. fastball kind of thrower-he simply throws strikes and is our most reliable and most accurate pitcher.  While he won't knock the bat out of anybody's hands, the batter better not come to the plate with the bat on their shoulder. Drew is more of a Greg Maddox chip away at the edges of the strike zone kind of pitcher.  Drew was inserted into the middle of last inning of the Championship Game because I had to have someone who could throw strikes with the bases loaded and hold the game to four runs. The five-run rule would have put the game out of reach, otherwise.

Drew also has a very good glove in the infield.  He could see playing time at shortstop this year, depending on how well he does in coaching the other players.  The shortstop has to be able to tell other players where to throw the ball, before the ball is pitched, and has to keep other players awake and in the game.  We need a coach on the field in this spot.  The best glove and arm in the world won't help if the rest of the team is chasing butterflies in the outfield.

He can play any position on the field, but he was moved around to third base last year because he has such a strong arm.

As a batter, Drew starts each year slowly and then gains steam as the year continues.  Last year Drew started the year at the plate batting only 1 for 10 and then finished the year batting 14 for 16 to finish the year batting for a .478 avg.  Drew was among the team leaders in fewest strikeouts.

This year with Henson Gibbs on board (and with Henson's development last year), we have a right/left pitching combination for every game. Henson will get more innings this year than last year and Ryan Townsend (a new addition) should add some stability as well. Drew should get alot more innings, this year.  This should improve Drew's pitching production.  Usually, our pitchers do well the first time through an opposing teams line-up, and during the second at-bat they begin to hit our pitchers.  By bringing in a southpaw (left-handed pitcher) to help Drew finish the game, the batters may be off-balance.  In 2006, Drew averaged about 1 strikeouts per inning and had the second lowest ERA on the team behind Logan.

2008 Should be Drew's breakout year.  We are counting on him to replace the players we lost to travel team baseball and pull a lot of innings on the mound.
