Henson is simply the best little catcher I have ever coached.  People forget he is a year younger than other players on the team.  He is a great defensive catcher and he and Logan make a great combination.  Henson blocks the ball with his body better than any catcher I have ever seen, other than catchers at the high school level.  He has a strong arm and can make an accurate throw to second.

Henson struggled a bit at the plate in 2007.  He made contact on almost every at bat, but he hit into bad luck.  However, he came through when we needed him with two outs, bases loaded, and the score tied in the bottom of the last inning of the Championship Game.  It was his hit to second base that scored the game winning RBI and gave the Cubs the Championship. This year Henson is spending alot of time in the batting cages at Gordon Central High School with the Georgia Spiders.  Their indoor facility allows each boy to hit 300-400 balls during each 2 hour practice.  With 4-5 batting stations, each boy hits for 5-minutes and watches for 5-minutes and then rotates in/out.  The extra work has really helped Henson and Logan and both began smashing the ball after the second practice.

Henson also is a very fine left-handed pitcher.  He has good velocity and very good movement on his fastball.  He should get alot more work this year, but dropping from three catchers to two catchers on our roster, he may spend a great deal more time catching.  If Paxton can step forward and show he can make strides in using his body to block pitches, we will be able to use both Paxton and Henson in our infield.  This should give us a lot of flexibility all over the field.
