Logan has always been one of our better athletes, and while he could play any position on the field, we have positioned him where the team needed him most.  In youth baseball, first base is the primary position to get outs, so this is where Logan has spent the majority of his playing time.  It matters little if a sensational play is made at second base or shortstop, if the first baseman drops the ball at first base.

This year Logan will probably move to the left side of the infield, if we can find a suitable replacement at first base.  Logan has always been forced into playing first base, since we didn't have a suitable back-up.  Finding a suitable back-up or full-time first baseman is a priority this year.

As a left-handed pitcher, Logan gives us an edge over other teams because 11 year olds have difficulty hitting a southpaw.  At times, when he is throwing strikes, he is unhittable.  Logan lead the team in all pitching categories in 2007 and he seemed to peak at the right time (during the Championship finals).  Except for the first inning in the Championship (final) Game (when he walked the first three batters) he completely dominated the Dug Gap team in both the semifinal and final game.

This year Logan will split time with a travel team on weekends.  The Cubs are his first priority, and as we evaluated several offers to play on travel teams, we chose a team that would allow him to place his primary emphasis with the Cubs.  As it turns out some of the 10 yr. old Dug Gap boys (from the Championship Game) are on this team, so it is odd how a uniform change will change attitudes, relationships, and bitter feelings in youth athletics.  Logan will pitch for the Cubs in games where we feel he will be needed, but we plan to give Jackson, Drew, Ryan Townsend, and Henson many more innings this year. Five quality pitchers is far too many for one team in a 12-game season.  Our goal for the regular season is to get all 5 pitchers ready for the Championship Playoffs at the end of the season. Logan should get plenty of pitching preparation with the Spiders, though he will be used for the Cubs, as well.

Hitting back-to-back as batters, Logan and Blake were two tough outs. Logan has the third highest batting average on the team (behind Jackson and Blake) and tied for the lead in RBI's (with Blake) which is tough in the lead-off spot.  Logan had the fewest strikeouts on the team in 2006, by a significant margin and only struck out 3 times in 2007.  He also lead the team in runs scored. This year in working in the indoor batting cages at Gordon Central High School, he has started to make contact with the ball sooner than he did last year.  Let's hope it transfers to game situations.
