Blake Ownbey
Blake Ownbey is a "smart" player and is a "thinker". He always seems to know what to do with the ball, when it is hit to him. He is our shortstop and has a good glove.
Blake helps keep all the players on the field aware of the
situation for each play and is a great field captain. He makes sure his
leftfielder, centerfielder, third baseman, and second baseman understand "where
the play is" and always has his head 'in the Blake is the type of player that all coaches love. He listens and learns easily, and we feel confident in placing him in any position on the field. No matter which position he plays, the coaches know he will make the right play to get an out. As a batter, he is simply the best bunter I have ever seen at this age. He has laid down several perfect bunts this year. Opposing players are always stunned to see him bunt, and they seldom know what to do with the ball when they field it. Often, they make the wrong play which creates other opportunities for us. Blake, also, is a good contact hitter and is among our leaders in batting average.
As you examine Blake's stats, you will see he goes to the plate every time looking to make contact with the ball. He has few bases-on-balls, if any. The few strike-outs he has, were created by umpires with very lenient strike zones (more like from the soles of the shoes to two feet over his head, and two feet on either side of home plate). Blake bats second because we know he will put the ball in play.
