Clay is one of those players that other teams overlook.  He steps to the plate and they forget to back up.  When I was Clay's age, Ray Knight (replaced Pete Rose at Cincinnati) played in our league.  The shortstop was forced to play a shallow left field because he hit the ball so hard.  I get the same feeling every time Clay steps to the plate.  If the opposing team does not back-up, I hope they can get out of the way quickly (or still have their baby teeth), because Clay simply crushes the ball.

Clay was tied for the team lead in runs scored (with Logan and Drew) and lead the team in walks.

Clay is becoming a good catcher as well.  He has a very strong arm and can easily make the throw to second base. Clay continues to improve each game at catcher.  The Catching position is always the most important position on any youth team and the position that receives the most criticism.  At this age, most runs are scored on walks or runners that reach base and advance on passed balls.  Clay continues to improve each game by using his body to block balls in the dirt.  Clay understands that the fewer balls that get past him, the fewer runs allowed. While the pitcher has alot to do with these passed balls, Clay seems to improve with each game.  This is evident in the number of runs scored by opponents and the number of runners left on base.  In our first game 11 runners reached base and 8 of them scored.  In our second game,  10 runners reached base and only 2 scored.  In our third game, 5 runners reached base and only 1 runner scored.

Clay also is beginning to play first base for us and he has improved each time he has played the position.  We are confident that Clay will play well, wherever we put him in the field.
