Drew Guffey
Batting
Pitching
This is Drew's second year with the Cubs. He can play any position on the field, but he has moved around to third base this year because he has such a strong arm. He is still learning the position and we have some teaching to do, but he should be able to fill the need for a third basemen. As a batter, Drew starts each year slowly and then gains steam as the year continues. Last year Drew started the year at the plate batting only 1 for 10 and then finished the year batting 14 for 16 to finish the year batting for a .577 avg. Drew led the team in RBI's. Drew also was tied for the team lead in runs scored (with Logan and Clay) Drew also pitches and is our most accurate thrower. While he does not throw as hard as Jackson ad Logan, we can usually count on Drew to throw strikes. This year with Henson Gibbs coming on board (and if Henson continues to develop), we have a right/left pitching combination for every game. This should improve Drew's pitching production. Usually, our pitchers do well the first time through an opposing teams line-up, and during the second at-bat they begin to hit our pitchers. By bringing in a southpaw (left-handed pitcher) to help Drew finish the game, the batters may be off-balance. In 2006, Drew averaged a little better than 2 strikeouts per inning- you don't get any better than that.
