Logan Hilton is one of the best athletes we have on the Cubs.  As a lefty, he pitches and plays first base.  Left-handed pitchers are rare at this age, and young batters have a difficult time facing southpaws.

As a pitcher, his accuracy seems to improve with each outing and left-handed hitters are literally scared to death, when they face him on the mound. Especially after one of them is accidentally nailed with an accidental hit pitch.

Like most left-handers, his pitches have a lot of movement and every pitched ball seems to "move" up or down or curve as they approach the batter. Many pitches may move up, down and curve (on the same pitch). He throws the ball hard, and at least once this year (on a cold night), we had to change catchers in the middle of an inning, because of the sting he delivers to the catchers glove hand.

Opposing batters should not expect to go to the plate looking for a walk, because his pitches are always near the plate. Over the last 2 outings, he has struck out 14 of the 16 batters he has faced.

As a batter, he is a good contact hitter.  While he does not have the power that some of our larger players have, he always seems to make contact. At this age, a batter rarely sees "perfect" pitches to hit, so they must learn to hit pitches outside the strike zone.  When he does see a good pitch, he has enough power to drive the ball to the outfield.  In 9 year old ball, a hit to the outfield almost always assures the batter of extra bases.  Logan has three home runs this year.

Logan carries the highest batting average on the team, and as our lead-off hitter, if he starts well, the team finishes well. In a recent game, he led off the game with a home-run, which stunned the opposing team.  The other team had just scored 5-runs in their half of the first inning, and they were feeling fairly confident.  When the batters that followed got hits, including a home-run by Clay Phillips, the opposing team fell apart.  The game was over even though the Cubs still trailed 5-3.
