Westside Cubs vs. Varnell Braves
This was our first regular season game and we were very proud of our players. Our players learned a great deal from the Early Bird tournament. We won this game 11-5. We started quickly with 5 runs in the first inning. Logan Hilton led-off with a single, followed by Blake Ownbey who singled and got his first RBI. Garrett Kelly also singled. Logan Hilton, Blake Ownbey, Clay Phillips, Ethan Hayes, and Garrett Kelly, each scored in the inning. The inning was called because of the 5-run rule. Dakota Ware singled in the second inning, but we couldn't get him in to score. In the third inning we scored 5 runs as well thanks to bases on balls and a hard single up the middle by Garret Kelly. Clay Phillips, Ethan Hayes, Ethan Neal, Garrett Kelly and Jackson Bell, each scored in the 3rd. Blake Ownbey singled and scored the lone run in the 4th inning and the game was called because of the 80-minute time limit. Jackson Bell did a masterful job of pitching, going three innings and striking out 6 and getting the his first regular season win. Jackson gave up only two hits. The Varnell Braves left the park trying to figure out how they were going to get hits off Jackson the next time they face him. Pitching Jackson Bell WP 6 k’s
